What is a Spiritual Campaign at Highway?
A spiritual campaign is an opportunity for all the adults of the church to learn about the same spiritual topic at the same time. There is a gathering of momentum when we all focus our teaching and studying on the same topic for a period of time.
We invite you to join with others in the Highway family as we embark on an 8-week journey to grow our faith. To assist you so that you can get the most value out of this campaign, we are making a Companion Guide book available for you to use in the components of this campaign. (scroll down further to see how the Companion Guide works for you).
The Campaign is built around three main components:
1. A Sunday sermon/teaching that kicks off the topic for the week.
2. A small group component, we encourage you to join with others in a Connect Groups.
3. A weekly reflection on the practise of the week, and taking time to learn it.
The Practicing the Way Course features eight sessions of teaching, guided conversation, and spiritual exercises designed to lay a foundation for lifelong apprenticeship (discipleship) to Jesus.
Over these eight sessions, you’ll form a foundational understanding of intentional spiritual formation. We’ll explore how to follow Jesus in our busy, distracted, and increasingly secular culture.
There is a Companion Guide that is designed to help you practice, reflect, and dialogue in community. These Companion Guides will be made available at Highway starting in September.
These are the eight sessions we will complete:
Session 1: Following Jesus
Session 2: Formation - Part 1
Session 3: Formation - Part 2
Session 4: The Practices
Session 5: Meeting God in Pain and Suffering
Session 6: Healing From Sin
Session 7: Crafting a Rule of Life
Session 8: Life Together
The best way to get the most out of this spiritual campaign series is to be part of a weekly Connect Group. In the small group settings, you will be able to view a short video about the weekly topic and then take some time to dig deeper into what it means, through discussion and interaction.
Here are the elements you will find in your Companion Guide:
Teaching Section – Here you will find a summary of the video teaching, and a space to write your notes from the video teaching as you watch it.
Discussion Questions – Here are some questions that will help you process the information from the teaching. Your Connect Group leader may have some additional questions.
Practice Notes – This page is a place for you to make notes on the second short video teaching.
Practise – Each week, this section will allow you the opportunity to practise the teaching of the week. You are encouraged to make this a proirity of your week.
Resources to go deeper – This is optional. This is a page with further ideas and reading if you want to study the weekly topic deeper.
Practise Reflection – This is a place where you can reflect on the weekly topic as you prepare for your next Connect Group meeting.
Sermon Notes Page – Use this area to write notes from the Sunday Teaching/Sermon. (These pages are located in the back of your Companion Guide).
You can get a copy of the Companion Guide from the Welcome Centre in the Highway lobby after the morning services, in the month of September.
